Tauheed Epps was born on 12 September 1977, in College Park, Georgia. He is raised by his mother alone as his father was in prison during his childhood.

Chainz spent most of his youth in College Park City with his friends. At the age of 15, he got arrested for felony cocaine possession.

He attended North Clayton High School, where he used to play basketball for the school team. Later, he joined Alabama State University on scholarship and played basketball for the university.

In 1997, Chainz started his music career by forming a hip hop duo Playaz Circle with his school friend Earl Conyers. Then, he signed a music contract with Def Jam Records and started recording their first album.

The duo officially released their first studio album Supply & Demand in 2007. That album became a huge blockbuster hit and many singles from the album including “Duffle Bag Boy” (feat. Lil Wayne) became a popular hit single in Urban.

In 2011, Chainz released a mixtape, T.R.U. REALigion which was a commercial success and became his first mixtape to appear on the Billboard Top R&B Hip-Hop Albums chart. That same year he made several guest appearances on tracks by popular hip hop artists including Kanye West‘s Mercy and Nicki Minaj‘s Beez in the Trap.

In 2012, he released his debut studio album Based on a T.R.U Story which a huge success and peaked at the top position on Billboard 200 chart. The album sold over 150,000 copies in its first week and lead single “No Lie” from the album featuring rapper Drake ranked top on several music charts.

That same year, he also collaborated with Ciara to record “Sweat” first single for her fifth studio album One Woman Army.  Chainz released his second album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time in 2013 under Def Jam Recordings. This album debuted at number three position on Billboard 200 chart and sold over 70,000 copies in its first week.

After that, he collaborated with many popular rappers for their tracks including Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Jhene Aiko, Travis Scoot, and Future, etc. Many of his popular releases include Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, Good Drank, Birthday Song, I’m Different, and Rap Or Go To The League.
