Samuel Roy Hagar was born on 13th October 1947, in Salinas, California. His father’s name is Bobby Hagar and his mother’s name is Gladys Hagar.

He spent his childhood in Fortana, California with his three siblings. At an early age, Hagar started working as a newspaper delivery boy to pay for his school fees.

He developed an interest in music during his high school years and started taking guitar lessons. At the age of 14, he joined his first band The Fabulous Castilles.

Career

After working with several bands in 1970, Hagar signed to Capitol Records as a solo artist and released several hit albums including Nine on a Ten Scale and Red. He also appeared on the musical tour Don’t Look Back which had held on Boston.

In 1979, Hagar left Capitol Records and joined to Geffen Records. He released his first album Standing Hampton” with Geffen Records. The album was a huge success and became his first best-selling album which later certified platinum.

His 1984’s, song “I Can’t  Drive 55” from the album VOA reached at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles. Then he joined the “Van Halen” band and released his first No. 1 hit on the Billboard album tracks, Giving to Live from I Never said Goodbye.

In the mid-1980s, Hagar released four hit albums with Van Halen i.e. 5150, OU812, Balance, and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. All the four albums went multi-platinum and ranked #1 on the Billboard Albums charts.

Later he left Van Halen band and released many solos including Little White Lie which topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Hagar produced a music group named, “Chickenfoot” with Michael Anthony, and Chad Smith.

The group released their first album Chickenfoot in 2009 which became a commercial success, reaching at #4 on the Billboard Album chart. Later on, they also produced two other parts of the album i.e. Chickenfoot II and Chickenfoot III.

In 2019, Hagar released a debut album Space Between for his newly formed group “The Circle”. The album ranked at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on the Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
