Usher Raymond IV was born on 14 October 1978, in Dallas, Texas, United States. His father’s name is Usher Raymond III and his mother’s name is Jonetta Patton.

Usher’s father left the family when he was only a year old. He grew up with his mother in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Later, his mother re-married and he started living with his step-father and a half-brother.

At the age of nine, he joined a local church youth choir in Chattanooga. Usher’s singing ability was first discovered by his grandmother who encouraged him to pursue a career in music.

In the search for more opportunities, Usher moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his family. At the age of ten, he joined R&B local quintet, “the NuBeginnings”. In 1991, he recorded a number of songs with the group and also featured in the album NuBeginning Featuring Usher Raymond IV.

After two years, he met Bobby Brown‘s bodyguard A.J. Alexander in a talent show. Alexander arranged an audition for Usher with the co-founder of LaFace and he signed Usher to their record company. Thereafter, Usher made his public appearance with the song Call Me a Mack.

In 1994, Usher released his debut album ‘Usher” with LaFace records. That album reached at #25 on the Billboard Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums chart and sold over 500,000 copies. Later, the album received backlash because of sexual content.

In 1997, Usher released his second studio album My Way with Jermaine Dupri. The album was a commercial success and certified six-time platinum by RIAA. Singles from the album including You Make Me Wanna and Nice & Show peaked at top position on the Billboard Hot 100 and other country charts.

With his fourth album, Confessions (2004) Usher became one of the best-selling music artists of the 2000s decade, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. The album earned him numerous awards and nominations and also certified Diamond by the RIAA.
